John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit through his songs of pop-folk, many of which were located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr., born Henry John Deutschendorf from Roswell near New Mexico, was in love with Colorado. The place he settled was Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, stated: "I don't believe there any other performer who embodies Colorado in the same way as John Denver." Denver, the Hall of Fame's initial inductee, was honoured with this honor in 2011. Denver has become the image of Colorado to many across the globe. If you travel with me, you may meet people at the other side of the planet. For example someone from New Zealand. And when you tell them you're from Colorado people will respond with "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 singles after performing with small folk music bands. It was co-written and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music in mind, but Denver realized from the first moment he listened to the first versions of the song that it would be a big success. The song was recorded just two weeks following it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
